About PocketSums

PocketSums is a small independent UK website that answers everyday money questions with a number: what you take home from a salary, what stamp duty costs on a house, what a mortgage costs each month.

How we keep the numbers right

Every calculator runs on one set of rules taken from HMRC and GOV.UK for the current tax year. When a Budget, a Scottish Budget or a new tax year changes a rate, we update that one set of rules and every calculator and table on the site changes with it. Our methodology page lists every rate we use and where it comes from.

What we are not

We are not financial advisers and nothing here is advice. The calculators give an estimate for a typical situation. For decisions that matter, check with HMRC, your employer, your lender or a regulated adviser.

How the site is paid for

The calculators are free and always will be. The site is paid for by adverts, which never change the numbers you see.
