Paid by the hour?

  • Holiday pay is included in a 52 week year, so do not add it again.
  • Overtime can push one payslip into a higher tax bracket for that month. It evens out by April.

Questions people ask

How do you turn an hourly rate into a yearly salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by your hours a week, then by 52. At 37.5 hours a week, £15 an hour is £15 x 37.5 x 52 = £29,250 a year. Paid holiday is included because you are paid for all 52 weeks.

What is the minimum wage from April 2026?

The National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over is £12.71 an hour. It is £10.85 for 18 to 20 year olds and £8.00 for under 18s and apprentices.

Does it matter if I am paid weekly or monthly?

Not over a full year. Payroll works tax out each pay period, so a single week with lots of overtime can have more tax taken, but it evens out by the end of the tax year.
