Questions people ask

Which student loan plan am I on?

Plan 1 if you started in England or Wales before September 2012, or in Northern Ireland. Plan 2 if you started in England or Wales between September 2012 and July 2023. Plan 4 if you studied in Scotland. Plan 5 if you started in England from August 2023. Your payslip or your Student Loans Company account shows it.

Is student loan taken from gross or net pay?

From gross pay, before income tax, but only on earnings above your plan's threshold. Salary sacrifice pension lowers the pay it is worked out on.

Can I have two plans at once?

Yes. With an undergraduate loan and a postgraduate loan you repay both, 9% above the undergraduate threshold and 6% above £21,000.
